In a statistic that will likely surprise no one, UKIE's Chart Track for video game sales in the UK, show that the much-delayed and highly-anticipated MMORPG, Guild Wars 2, has raced right to the top of the charts (week ending September 1st) even though publisher NCSoft released the game on August 28th, just a few days before the week of the chart ended.
The title beat out competition from the best-selling game of the week before, Sleeping Dogs, an open-world sandbox game that had the benefit of being released on four platforms - PS3, Xbox 360, PC and OnLive - while Guild Wars 2 saw a release solely on computers. Consistently strong EA franchises FIFA 12, Madden NFL 13 and Battlefield 3 as well as the popular FPS, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and the best-selling video game in history, Call of Duty Black Ops are a few of the games that Guild Wars 2 left in its wake in the charts.
Official sales figures have yet to be released by the Guild Wars 2 publisher but keep visiting MMOFan.com and we'll keep you updated.
